New Releases January 2009
2008 Merlot:
Our 2008 Merlot with its aromas of berry and light oak melds with flavors of cherry, caramel, and a hint of tobacco. Smooth and silky it avoids the overly herbal character of so many Merlots interchanging that herbal character with a tiny amount of spice to give it a well rounded approachable character. Lighter tanins provide a smooth but structured mouth-feel to pull the elements of this versatile red together.
This is the first of two releases of Merlot for us this year. This early release spent 12 months in more neutral oak barrels to give it a more fruit forward character. We will be releasing a reserve Merlot this fall aged 18-24 months in oak with a more French character and more distinctive oak flavor.
2008 Syrah:
Inky black with a beautiful raspberry and blackberry notes this Syrah is our first release of our favorite varietal. Round with hint of coffee and chocolate and just a dusting of spice, it’s aromas are cherry, and a hint of cassis. Pairing well with a variety of fare from chicken alfredo to lamb and wild game dishes. It’s fruit and structure make it a perfect food wine. Enjoy with our compliments.
2007 Merlot:
Available only at Idaho State Liquor Dispensary and The Orchard House.
Our 2007 Merlot is meant to be a classic French style wine with hints of a northwest influence. It has luscious berry flavors balanced nicely with earthy notes that make Merlot one of our favorite wines. Though maligned in the movie "Sideways," we feel that Merlot is a classic grape and that makes such beautiful wine, we couldn't resist it's allure.
With light oak, strong cherry, black currant, cassis, and blackberry flavors, it holds its own with any of the Bordeaux varieties. Meant to be enjoyed in the next 5 years, this Merlot pairs well with steaks, medium to heavy pasta dishes, and our favorite, a slow cooked prime rib.
2008 Viognier
Retail $15.00
Our winemaker has always been attracted to the wines of the Rhone Valley of France. Viognier originated there as a blending wine and in co-fermentations with Syrah. Both French and Australian winemakers discovered it over time and Viognier made its mark as a bright, floral, and fruit forward wine. It wasn't until Viognier reached the Northwest US that it really gained a following. We're excited to release our take on this new northwest favorite!
With aromas of tropical fruit and flowers, it exceeds Chardonnay in its fruit and acidity. As a stainless fermented wine, it carries no oak or butter character which has allowed those characteristics to take center stage. It's bright flavors compliment light salads, pasta in white sauce, and seafood. With pear, apple, and tropical fruit it is meant to be drank now but will age 2-3 years gracefully.
2008 Late Harvest Chardonnay
Retail: $15.00 per Half Bottle or $20.00 for a full bottle.
Our Late Harvest Chardonnay is the newest addition to the FFC wine family. A lighter alternative to Ice Wines and other dessert wines, it's focus is on the fruit.
With sweetness and a bit of tart acidity it has luscious apple, pear, peach, and apricot with a slightly deceptive melon and honeydew nose. Meant to be served alone as a finish to a great dinner; or with cheesecake, strawberry shortcake, or our personal favorite, fresh blueberries and angelfood cake, it will be a great compliment to any summertime or early fall gathering.
